Here is a glimpse of the bustling atmosphere at the renowned Fu Hang Dou Jiang in Taipei. Be prepared to wait in line for 30 minutes to an hour, depending on your luck.
Established for over 60 years, this eatery guarantees a taste of tradition. The restaurant's simple setup features a counter within a food court, allowing customers to choose their seating after ordering. The cuisine resembles Chinese-style youtiao and douhua, but with a distinct Taiwanese twist. The youtiao is notably long, reaching about a foot in length, while the douhua comes in both savory and sweet options. Additionally, the establishment offers its renowned baked bread.

Charred flatbread (燒餅) 25-65 NTD depending on the type
This is a type of charcoal-baked bread similar to a clay oven, resembling Indian naan. It comes in four varieties: plain bread, egg-filled (jia dan - 夹蛋), youtiao-filled (jia youtiao - 夹油条), and egg and youtiao-filled (dan jia youtiao - 蛋夹油条).
Thick (hòu bǐng) and thin (bó bǐng) bread options are available. Thick bread is 5 NTD more expensive than thin bread.
We ordered the "Po Dan Jia You Tiao" (薄蛋夹油条) for 65 NTD, which is a thin, baked dough with egg and fried dough sticks. The baked dough was delicious, and the fried dough sticks were huge. When wrapped with the egg and dough, it was impossible to fit in our mouths! We had to tear it apart to eat it. We glanced at the table next to us and wondered how they managed to eat it whole. Maybe they dislocated their jaws.
The protagonist of our story, Youtiao (fried dough sticks), is 25 NTD, crispy, and about 1 foot long. It's delicious and satisfying.
This is a pancake wrapped egg (Bo Bing Jia Dan - 薄饼夹蛋) for 35 NTD.
This is similar to the previous version, but the pieces are thinner and easier to eat.
Salty Soy Milk (Salty Doujiang) 35 NTD
In addition to the usual hot and cold soy milk, this shop also offers a savory option that resembles congee. It contains a mixture of tofu skin, salted shredded fish, and crispy mini youtiao sprinkled on top. This unique combination is worth trying for those who haven't experienced it before. Preferences may vary.
Peeking into their open kitchen, we see modern equipment for sealing soybean milk cups. You can order soybean milk hot (re doujiang) or cold (bing doujiang). They also sell rice milk (mijiang), which has a slightly nutty flavor.
On the right side, there are three types of round, sesame-sprinkled balls:
1. Caramel bun or "Jiao Tang Tian Bing" (焦糖甜饼), the filling is a bit sweet.
2 Scallion Pancakes, or Cong Hua Xian Bing (葱花咸饼)
3 radish heads
While the queue may appear long, the staff are actually very efficient in preparing orders. The main reason for the queue is that customers tend to take their time browsing and selecting items.
The food court was extremely crowded. In addition to waiting in line to order food, you might also need to send a friend to help find a seat.
