"Tad Fane," the tallest waterfall in Laos, has always held a special place in my heart. While my previous visit left me feeling indifferent due to the lack of activities, a recent Facebook post sparked my curiosity.

The post announced the opening of a zipline at Tad Fane, a feat that seemed impossible given the waterfall's immense height. This news ignited a burning desire within me to experience this thrilling adventure.

Two months passed, and my hopes remained unfulfilled. However, fate intervened when I had to cancel a planned zipline trip to Tad Khammoune in Bolaven Plateau. This unexpected turn of events presented the perfect opportunity to finally conquer Tad Fane.

With only two days' notice, I embarked on this spontaneous adventure with a fellow thrill-seeker. Despite the short preparation time, we were undeterred, knowing the way from my previous visit.

For those unfamiliar with Tad Fane, it's located in Champasak Province, Pakse, Laos. To reach this majestic waterfall, you'll need to travel to Ubon Ratchathani in Thailand. Various transportation options are available, including flights, trains, and buses.

Once in Ubon Ratchathani, head to the Ubon Ratchathani Bus Terminal to catch a van to Chong Mek, the border crossing between Thailand and Laos. The van ride costs 100 baht and takes approximately one hour.

Upon arrival at Chong Mek, you'll need to cross the border into Laos. From there, you can arrange transportation to Tad Fane. The journey from Pakse to Tad Fane takes about 3-4 hours by car.

Prepare yourself for an unforgettable experience as you soar through the air on the Tad Fane zipline, enjoying breathtaking views of the cascading waterfall and lush surroundings.

Upon arrival at the checkpoint, complete the arrival and departure forms, pass through Thai immigration, and cross over to the Lao side.

On the Lao side, you will find a bank on your left. If you need to exchange currency, you can do so here.

The exchange rate on the day I visited was 248 kip = 1 baht.

Next, you need to pay the border crossing fee of 100 baht at the building on your right.

Walk to the back of the building. Arrivals are processed at the back, while departures are processed at the front.

After paying and getting your passport stamped, you need to take a van to Pakse city.

You can also take a motorbike taxi for 20 baht (Thai currency is accepted). The distance to the van station is about 1 kilometer.

Last year, when I went, the market wasn't here yet. Now they have a new market, so it's further away.

If you prefer to walk, you can. It's not too far.

The van will drop you off at theดาวเรือง market in Pakse city.

If you need to find a hotel or rent a car, you'll need to take another ride.

Alternatively, you can ask the van to take you directly to your destination for 40 baht per person, which is the same price as taking another ride.

I chose to get off at a motorbike rental shop first, as I planned to drive around and find a hotel with a beautiful view by the river.

If you prefer, you can book your accommodation through Agoda. There are many options available at affordable prices, ranging from 400 to 500 baht per night.

I chose to stay at the Pakse Mekong Hotel, which costs 800 baht or 200,000 kip per night.

Accommodation and motorbike secured, let's take a quick look at the map of Pakse city.

This afternoon, we are free, so we decided to go to Wat Phu Champasak, which is about 42 kilometers away. We'll take it easy. 55+

The scenery along the way to Wat Phu Champasak was breathtaking, with intermittent rain showers adding to the beauty. The rain in Pakse was peculiar, resembling the continuous downpours we experience at home. However, in Pakse, the rain only lasted for 5-10 minutes before disappearing. The journey offered stunning views, making it a memorable experience.

Visiting Pakse during the rainy season is a great way to experience the lush greenery of the area. The scenery is truly breathtaking.

After a short drive, we arrived at the temple. The parking fee was 5,000 kip, and the entrance fee was 50,000 kip per person, which is about 200 baht.

This is my second visit to Wat Phu Champasak, but I think it's even more beautiful this time because it's so green and lush. It's really stunning.

After exploring the area, it was time to head back. I aimed to return in time to catch the sunset at Wat Phu Salao, but unfortunately, I didn't make it.

As you can see from the map, most of the waterfalls are located near Tad Fane.

Except for Tad Pha Suam, which is a bit further away, but still accessible.

On this trip, I visited Tad Pha Suam first, then Tad Etu, and finally went ziplining at Tad Fane.

I didn't have time to visit Tad Yeung or Tad Tham Champi, as it got dark too early.

As usual, I traveled by motorbike.

It's a budget-friendly option, but it can be quite tiring. If you're not comfortable with motorbikes, you can always hire a car from Pakse.

There are small shared taxis available, similar to tuk-tuks but larger and able to accommodate 6-8 people.

If you're traveling with a group, hiring a car can be a time-saving and comfortable option.

I'm not sure about the price, but I estimate it to be around 1500-2000 baht per day. If you go with 6 people, it would be around 300 baht per person.

I think it's a good deal because motorbike rentals are around 50,000 kip or 200 baht per day.

We're off on our journey now that we have our vehicle! Yay! Our first stop today is Tad Pha Suam Waterfall, which costs 12,500 kip (about $50) per person to enter.

The water level was very high when we visited, unlike the previous time when I could sit close to the waterfall.

We initially planned to enjoy our papaya salad and grilled chicken at the pavilion, but the heavy rain forced us to eat upstairs instead.

After finishing our meal around 5 pm, we inquired with local vendors about the possibility of visiting another waterfall.

They advised against it due to time constraints and poor road conditions. Consequently, we decided to forgo the Tad Champee waterfall.

As we made our way back, the sunlight suggested that we might catch the sunset at Wat Phu Salao. We accelerated our return journey.

Fortunately, we arrived just in time to witness the breathtaking sunset over the Mekong River bridge in Pakse.
