Wang Lang Market: A Historical and Culinary Gem

Wang Lang Market, steeped in history, occupies the former site of the Wang Lang Palace (also known as the Phra Ratchawang Bophit Phimuk). This area also housed the first girls' school in Thailand, the "Kulastri Wang Lang School." Today, the majority of the land is occupied by Siriraj Hospital.

The market itself is a labyrinth of narrow alleys lined with shops on both sides. Its charm lies in its affordable and delicious street food, as well as its trendy fashion items for young adults and the general public. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a unique souvenir, Wang Lang Market offers a vibrant and engaging experience.

Today, we will take you on a nostalgic journey through Wang Lang, a popular tourist and dining destination in Bangkok. This one-stop shop offers a variety of experiences, from delicious food to exciting shopping opportunities. Join us as we explore the vibrant streets of Wang Lang.

We have arrived at our long-awaited destination, Wang Lang Pier. Some visitors choose to drive, while others opt for boats or public transportation. We chose to drive because we anticipate a shopping spree that might leave us too full to carry ourselves home. For those who drive, you can park your car in the building on the left before reaching Wat Rakhang and walk along the path behind the temple to reach our destination, Wang Lang Market.

The first shop that comes to mind when thinking of delicious restaurants at Wang Lang Market is the long-established "Wang Lang Bakery." Freshly baked bread, hot from the oven, with the softest, most overflowing fillings in the world. Baked fresh daily, and most importantly, without preservatives. With this many people crowding around, there's no need to mention how delicious it is. The 2 Muai will not miss out.

The filling is incredibly generous, with the owner not holding back on the ingredients. The bread itself is incredibly soft, even after being refrigerated overnight, although it may become slightly flatter.

Two friends wanted to share the deliciousness, so they took some home as gifts. They bought fresh butter because of their personal preference. When they got home, they put the fresh butter in the oven again. It was even more enjoyable than before because the butter was melted and the bread was soaked in butter. It was hot and delicious. If you want to try it, you can follow their example.

Why Oratai? Why are people crowding? Why is the queue so long? What's so good about it? ... Why wait?
2 beauties are rushing, aren't they?

This restaurant offers a wide variety of sushi toppings at an affordable price, starting at only 5 baht per piece.

The sushi we ordered has arrived. Although there were a few hard grains of rice, the overall taste was acceptable. This restaurant offers a variety of unique sushi toppings, such as our shrimp kimchi sushi. The prices are comparable to those at a local market, but the overall experience is different due to the cleanliness of the establishment.

The first drink we ordered was a pineapple smoothie, which was pleasantly sweet and not overly sugary. The second drink was an iced green tea, which cost 7 baht. It was sweet, but the tea flavor was very weak, so we weren't particularly impressed.

Should we stop or continue eating? Suddenly, we caught a glimpse of... Takoyaki for only 5 baht each! We almost tripped over ourselves to get a closer look. We ordered every flavor, of course. We had to try them all! The shop even made them fresh and hot for us. If you eat at the shop, they have their own special Takoyaki sauce. It comes in a bottle, so you can add as much as you like right at your table.

The restaurant is small and crowded, but it is worth the wait. The food is delicious and the service is friendly.

What I crave is a big, juicy shrimp wonton, bursting with flavor and filled with minced pork, nestled in a steaming bowl in front of the shop.

One bowl is not enough, you have to try both the soup and dry versions. It's here and ready to be served. Doesn't it look delicious? The fragrant roast pork wonton noodles and wonton soup are irresistible. I can't wait to try them!

The shrimp and minced pork dumplings were flavorful, with the savory marinated pork complementing the sweetness of the shrimp. The dumpling wrappers were soft and moist, not dry or tough. The noodles were also excellent, with a thin and tender texture. The highlight was the char siu sauce, which was perfectly balanced in its sweet and savory notes, eliminating the need for additional seasoning. Overall, this restaurant left a positive impression. When I returned to purchase some as a souvenir, they were unfortunately sold out.

A sweet and savory treat, a commoner's delight. Don't delay, indulge in the crunchy delight of water chestnut in ruby syrup. This shop offers a complete experience, with the fragrant aroma of coconut milk filling the air.

Delicately sweet, just the right amount to bring joy to the heart.

After visiting the Sai Mai shop, where are we going to eat next? Because right now, I'm sweating as much as the dumplings. This restaurant, N10 Cafe, has a beautiful view of the Chao Phraya River. You can sit both outdoors and indoors. The shop is decorated in a chic style, using a mixture of wood to maintain its old-fashioned feel but giving it a modern feel like sitting in a living room. The name N10 comes from the number of the Siriraj pier. The two of us decided to stop by the restaurant that they said was chick chick cool cool, N10 cafe, which is part of the Wang Lang Riverside House.

This restaurant offers a wide variety of food, bakery, and beverages, including beer. There are many menus to choose from, so feel free to choose what you like.

Everyone comes to take photos at this spot.

This riverside view offers a stunning panorama of Rama VIII Bridge and the bend of the Chao Phraya River where Wat Arun is situated. The scene would be even more captivating during sunset. During my visit, foreign tourists were enjoying the relaxing atmosphere.

Two, please order only drinks. I'm so full I'm about to burst.

Taking a break indoors to enjoy some soft music and cool air conditioning.

A sweet picture for a shop sign, please.

This restaurant is a must-try for "Moo Tod Chaowang" (Royal-style Fried Pork). However, please note that it is closed on Sundays. If you want to try it, come on another day to avoid disappointment.

Let's continue to this shop.

The spicy food is here. "Som Tum Pa In" is another restaurant that we want to eat. TikTok is asking, "Should we eat it? Can we eat it? Should we continue eating it?"

Let's guess, shall we continue eating...?

In addition to the daytime atmosphere, we also want to present the atmosphere of Wang Lang in the evening. The shop we chose is 342 Bar, located on Wang Lang Riverside, the same location as N10 Cafe.

Gazing at the passing boats, I see the dazzling yellow light of the Emerald Buddha Temple in the distance. It is truly magnificent.

The view from here is truly breathtaking, offering a panoramic vista of the vibrant atmosphere and dazzling lights of Tha Maharaj at night.

This establishment offers a selection of light snacks and various beverages. We opted for a refreshing glass of lemonade and some mocktails for a light and stylish drink.

From Tha Wang Lang Pier, you can cross the river to Tha Maharaj Pier in two ways. I've already done one, so I wanted to complete the set by taking a boat across to walk on the other side. This gave me this view, which looks like something out of a cowboy movie.

Time to go! In short, it was a trip that satisfied our cravings. We will see you again, Wang Lang. Anyone can come, it's easy, just follow your heart.
