Here is part 3 after a long break from our Italian trip. If you haven't read it yet, you can go back and read it in

Part 1 https://th.readme.me/p/17612 : When in Rome

Part 2 https://th.readme.me/p/17862 : One Day in Florence

As I mentioned in Part 3, I will take you on a road trip to Tuscany, an Italian region with stunning landscapes and fairytale towns, a dreamland for many. And of course, it's as beautiful as its reputation suggests. So, let's get going without further ado.

This trip, we drove to Tuscany for 4 days and 3 nights.

Day 1

Renting a car in Italy: A guide for tourists

Renting a car is highly recommended for exploring Italy. It is advisable to book your rental car in advance, but payment can be made upon pick-up. Consider purchasing full-service insurance for peace of mind.

International driving permits are required for Thai citizens and cost 500 baht with a one-year validity. Remember that Italy drives on the right-hand side with left-hand drive vehicles, which may be unfamiliar to some drivers.

Let's take a look at the car. The small and cute Fiat 500, which is used as a compact rental car in Italy, is ridiculously expensive in our country.

We started our day by driving out of Florence, where we had spent the night and explored the city. If you haven't read the previous review, you can read it here (Part 2 One Day in Florence: https://th.readme.me/p/17862). Florence is the capital of the Tuscany region.

For those planning to drive around Tuscany, it's highly recommended to mark your route on Maps beforehand. Choose an app that allows offline access to avoid any internet connectivity issues. Map.me is a great option. Once you arrive, simply follow the marked route on Maps, eliminating the need to navigate once you're outside the city. As you venture out, the stunning views will begin to unfold.

Vineyard.

Our first stop is Castellina in Chianti, Tuscany, where you'll find numerous charming old villages to explore. Let's delve into the unique attractions each village has to offer.

We had lunch here today. It was a very Western-style meal. We bought bread and side dishes from the supermarket and sat down to enjoy a relaxed, picnic-style lunch.

After a satisfying meal, we explored the charming village of Castellina in Chianti. Its small size allowed us to leisurely stroll through its entirety.

Next, we continued to the main town of Chianti. This town is famous for its wine, so we definitely had to buy some to take home. The village was also quite large, and we enjoyed walking around it.

The city is brimming with stores selling handmade crafts, each more tempting than the last. If you're planning a visit, be warned: your wallet might not survive the experience. Try to resist the urge to overspend!

The wine bottles are adorable, perfect for souvenirs, so I bought several bottles.

This shop is a lavender shop, purple all over the shop.

This shop is very pink.

In Chianti, there is a gelato shop that has won a world championship. The line is always long, so if you're there, you should definitely try it.

And then they continued to fight and destroy the city.

I then came across two impressive big bikes.

A bird's-eye view of the city.

Following our visit to Chianti, we will continue our journey to Siena, where we will be spending the night.

Before reaching Siena, we passed by Castello di Monteriggioni, a small stopover where we took a quick break. One of the advantages of renting a car is the flexibility to stop wherever we want.

The flowers here are beautiful.

After that, we went to Siena. In the past, Siena was a city with art and architecture that rivaled Florence, the main city of Tuscany. The city center is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Siena's buildings are beautiful and unique.

Those who have booked accommodation in Siena should note that if they are staying in the city center, they will need to find parking and walk uphill. As the pictures show, Siena is located on a hill, so it is advisable to pack only essential items in a backpack.

Siena Cathedral

The next morning, we strolled through the city before departing from Siena. We came across a market that resembled a local flea market.

The prices are even cheaper than in our country, which is a bit surprising.

High-angle view of the city

Before leaving Siena, we had a light meal. In almost every major city in Italy, there is Chinese food available. If you are tired of pizza and spaghetti, you can always find a Chinese restaurant.

Date 2

Today is a day to admire the meadows and landscapes. Photography enthusiasts, don't miss this chance! We will visit Moltacino, San Quirico d'Orcia, Bagno Vignoni, and Farmhouse Poggio Covilli, all iconic landmarks in the Italian region of Tuscany.

We stopped to refuel at a self-service gas station. After filling up, we went inside the supermarket and told them which pump we used. They were able to see this information on their system and we paid for the fuel.

Ready to move on, we started taking pictures at Montalcino.

We will begin to see the Tuscan landmark grasslands with beautiful Cypress trees.

After finishing our activities, we checked into our accommodation. Before heading back, we enjoyed spaghetti for dinner.

Although it rained intermittently on the day of our visit, upon returning to our accommodation, we were greeted by a stunning rainbow from the hotel balcony. This was an unexpected delight. We highly recommend staying at Hotel Sangallo in Montalcino, which boasts breathtaking views.

**Day 3**

We visited Pienza, a city designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site.

Let's explore the city first.

To conclude, the Tuscan landscape at Pienza.

Poppy field

After finishing the third day, we returned to the hotel to rest because on the fourth day we had to return to Florence, return the car, and take the train to Venice. For those who plan to rent a car to travel around Tuscany, please allow plenty of time for your journey and refueling when returning the car. The roads here are very complex, and it's easy to get lost.

The Tuscany road trip concluded with a sense of awe, leaving us with a plethora of stunning photographs. For our next review, we'll explore the captivating city of Venice, a must-visit destination in Italy. Stay tuned as we embark on a Venetian adventure to conclude our Italian escapade.
