PAKSONG DANNGARM HOTEL

Five-star luxury hotel in Pakse, Lao PDR

I traveled to Laos to film a documentary in Sekong Province. On the way back, I stopped by Pakxong, a city located on the rim of an extinct volcano in Laos. The city has a cool climate all year round, making me want to stay here for many days. And by chance, at that time, I only had one night and had to stay at Tung Wai Homestay at the foot of Mount Luang.

As I passed through this town, I noticed a newly built hotel called Paksong Danngarm Hotel, located on the road leading to Sekong Province. I was curious to try it out for a night, and the owner of Thung Wua Homestay told me that if I ever came back to Paksong, I should stay there. He said the rooms are beautiful, the air is fresh, and it's a 5-star hotel in Laos.

I was fortunate to have the opportunity to return to Pak Song once again to film a documentary on the ethnic groups there. While I was there, I also had the chance to formally adopt a Laotian child. During my stay, I was pleasantly surprised by the luxurious accommodations and excellent service provided by the hotel.

Most importantly, the food in the dining room is to the taste of Thai people, even for picky eaters like me.

The chef is Thai, so he can make delicious Tom Yum and Tom Klong. (Usually, if I order Tom Yum at a Lao or Malaysian restaurant, I get Tom Yum Goong instead.)

The Pak Song Daeng Ngam Hotel is located on the road leading to Sekong and Attapeu provinces, about 1 kilometer beyond the public park with the National Salvation Monument. The hotel is situated in the middle of a field surrounded by mountains and beautiful scenery, making it very private, quiet, and peaceful.

Upon waking in the morning, one is greeted by a blanket of mist that envelops the entire area. The mountain views, both in front and behind the hotel, are particularly stunning, with the mist lingering gracefully, creating a truly breathtaking scene.

Hotel Room Types

Hotel rooms are categorized into various types, ranging from standard rooms equipped with a bed, bathroom, TV, and desk to deluxe rooms and suites featuring separate bedrooms and living areas.

The most important thing is that it is affordable, starting at just over a thousand baht, which is very appealing to Thai travelers like me.

Where can we visit after staying here?

The first is the Thung Luang in Boliven, where Bird Thongchai went to film a coffee advertisement. The route is very beautiful when you reach the top. It is a hiking trail that you can go on your own, but it is better to have a guide. It will give you more peace of mind.

In the morning, I traveled to Attapeu to distribute medicine. I arrived in Sanamxai City in the late afternoon and handed over the medicine to the officials. I then took a car back because travel in Attapeu is currently very difficult, and there is not much accommodation available. So I returned here to sleep, which also took until nightfall.

That evening, my adopted son and his friends ordered three dishes: "Spicy Squid Salad," "Seafood Tom Yum," and "Stir-fried Squid with Chili Paste" (my son loves squid because it's hard to find in Laos). We also ordered a large pot of rice (it was so big that the three of us couldn't finish it). As I took my first sip of the Tom Yum soup, I couldn't help but exclaim,

The staff rushed in to say, "The chef is Thai."

There you go! I knew it. No wonder it was so delicious that I finished the whole pot of tom yum soup.

We ate until we were full and called the waiter to calculate the bill. It turned out to be 150,000 kip, which was cheaper than the restaurant I went to on the side of the road in Pakse. That restaurant charged me 178,000 kip, but the quality of the tom yum soup was vastly different.

Another tourist attraction that Thai tourists should visit is the Yahaen tribal village, located on the way to Sekak Waterfall. Turn left onto the red gravel road heading towards Tung Wai Village. After about 1 kilometer, you will find it.

The village of the Yahaen tribe, where beautiful handicrafts and woven fabrics are still produced, is located nearby. A little further on, you will find the village of the Lawen tribe, which was relocated here after their original village was flooded by the construction of a dam.

What to do in Pak Song?

Explore the lush forests and majestic mountains surrounding the area. Discover stunning waterfalls and breathtaking views of the volcanic crater landscape. After a day of adventure, relax and rejuvenate in the comfort of your hotel. Pak Song, the "Land of Beauty," will make you feel like you're in paradise. As you wake up in the morning, you'll be greeted by a sea of white mist gently swirling around your window, offering a panoramic view through the expansive glass walls.
