Where are you planning to travel to this late rainy and early winter season?
A Taste of Ranong: A Short Trip to Southern Thailand
This article invites readers to explore the charming southern province of Ranong, Thailand. The author describes their short but memorable trip, highlighting the ease of travel and the delicious local cuisine.
The journey begins with an overnight bus ride from Bangkok, offering scenic views and comfortable seating. Upon arrival in Ranong, a pre-arranged van awaits, ensuring a convenient start to the day. The first stop is the renowned Roti Nisra restaurant, where the author savors a delightful breakfast, living up to its reputation.
Our first stop was Grass Mountain, a small, treeless hill offering panoramic views. As our visit coincided with the onset of the southern rainy season, we were greeted by a refreshing, cool atmosphere and the surrounding mist. During the dry season, however, Grass Mountain transforms into a stunning landscape of golden-brown hues.

After strolling through the meadows, we ventured deeper into the forest. Our destination was the Honga Mangrove Research Center, renowned for its rich biodiversity and abundance of life. The trail was easy to navigate, thanks to the wooden bridges that extended into the forest. Informative signs about the plants and animals inhabiting the area were strategically placed along the path, enriching our knowledge as we explored.
Previously, we did not find lush green trees particularly exciting, as we were accustomed to seeing them everywhere. We traveled to various locations, including snow-capped mountains, glaciers, flower fields, and volcanoes. After many years, we realized that the verdant mountains and forests of Thailand are the most visually appealing and relaxing places to be.
Tranquil Getaway at Ton Phet Greennery Garden Resort
Nestled amidst serene gardens, Ton Phet Greennery Garden Resort offers a tranquil escape for those seeking a peaceful retreat. We opted for the spacious tents, which provided surprising comfort and a refreshing escape from the summer heat. The private patio added a touch of luxury, while the included seafood barbecue delivered to our tent was a delightful surprise.
The next day, we had no plans and decided to relax at the resort. The resort had a stream, a vegetable patch, and several cute gazebos. We ordered lunch from the resort and spent the day lounging and enjoying the greenery. This place was perfect for those who wanted a change of scenery.
Ms. Tei, the resort owner, informed us that today there would be a batik and tie-dye fabric making workshop led by a teacher. This was a trial run before they decide to officially offer the workshop in the future. We were fortunate enough to participate in the workshop. We have always been fond of naturally dyed fabrics, and seeing the process, trying it ourselves, and bringing home our own creations to use at home was incredibly fulfilling.
The process begins by stamping wax onto the fabric. The areas covered by wax will resist the dye, resulting in white lines against the colored background when the wax is removed.
The fabric was then dipped in dye and treated with chemicals following specific procedures. Finally, it was boiled to remove the wax, leaving my hands stained blue. However, seeing the finished product filled me with joy.
Every time we talked, Tay always emphasized that if there was anything wrong or not good, she would have to apologize. When we went there, it had only been open for a few months. Many areas were still under construction. Some things were not perfect or as convenient as staying in a five-star hotel. However, we felt the overwhelming care of this place. We thought, "This imperfection is what makes homestays so charming. It's friendly and accessible."
A simple and comfortable home that brings peace of mind.
In addition to the tents we slept in, there are also two-person teepees and large houses for groups. You can contact the page 'Ton Phet Greenery Garden โตนเพชร กรีนเนอรี การ์เด้น' on Facebook for more information and reservations.
For those who don't know where to go, we recommend this lovely province. Come visit and experience the charm in every molecule, just like we did. : )
