The impetus for this trip was a desire to participate in a running event abroad, and Russia had long been on my list of desired destinations. Without further ado, I decided to embark on a journey to Russia.

This trip will take you to Moscow, St. Petersburg, and Dubai. Sounds interesting, right? Let's go on a trip together.

To keep the content concise, I will divide the review into 3 parts: Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Dubai. On this trip, we flew with Emirates, which took 6 hours from Bangkok to Dubai. We waited for a connecting flight in Dubai for 3 hours, and then flew to Moscow for 6 hours. Actually, 6 hours is not long at all because we flew on an A380 with a large screen in-flight entertainment system called ice (I can't remember what it stands for). It was great, with movies, music, documentaries, and delicious food. Let's just say we were never bored. :)

Let's take a look at the plane first.

Lunch is already served, even though I'm not hungry yet :D

The Emirates Terminal at Dubai Airport is not particularly interesting. I spent three hours wandering around, but there wasn't much to see or do.

A Six-Hour Journey to Moscow: Exploring Arbat Street

After a six-hour flight from Dubai, we arrived in Moscow, Russia, eager to begin our exploration. Our first stop was Arbat Street, a renowned pedestrian zone bustling with activity.

Arbat Street is a vibrant hub of restaurants, cafes, and souvenir shops, offering a delightful blend of cultural experiences. It also serves as a stage for talented artists showcasing their skills and offering unique artwork for purchase.

To reach Arbat Street, one can conveniently take the Metro and alight at either Arbatskaya or Smolenskaya station.

Red Square

Located in the heart of Moscow, Red Square is home to the iconic Saint Basil's Cathedral. Flanked by the Kremlin walls, the square also houses Lenin's Mausoleum, where the preserved body of Vladimir Lenin, a pivotal figure in communist history, is on public display. Contrary to popular belief, the name "Red Square" does not derive from the color of its buildings, but rather from the Russian word "krasnaya," meaning "beautiful."

Saint Basil's Cathedral

Saint Basil's Cathedral is a Russian Orthodox church built by Tsar Ivan IV to commemorate his victory over the Mongols at Kazan in 1552. This victory allowed Russia to unify as a nation, leading to the construction of the cathedral in 1555.

The cathedral's unique design features eight domes surrounding a ninth central dome, creating an octagonal shape. Visitors can purchase tickets to explore the cathedral's interior. The architecture blends ancient Russian styles influenced by Byzantine onion domes with elements of Russian Gothic architecture. The tall, tent-shaped towers, inspired by Western European influences, resemble tall candlesticks illuminating the heavens, symbolizing offerings to the gods.

Having survived natural disasters and enemy invasions for over 400 years, Saint Basil's Cathedral now stands as a prominent museum in Russia.

The interior of Saint Basil's Cathedral is breathtaking. We spent a long time admiring its beauty and grandeur.

Historic Museum

The Historic Museum features a statue of Georgy Zhukov, a prominent Soviet military commander who led the Red Army in liberating the Soviet Union from Nazi Germany's invasion. The Kazan Cathedral stands behind the museum.

GUM

GUM is a historic department store located on Red Square. It has been in operation for over 100 years. The interior of the store is beautifully decorated. A must-try when visiting GUM is the GUM ice cream, but the line is usually very long. Instead, we opted for Bosco Café, which offers ice cream for 100 RUB.

Getting there: Ploshchad Revolutsii metro station.

Izmailovsky Market

The Izmailovsky Market is the largest souvenir and antique market in Moscow. It offers a wide variety of goods, including jewelry, shawls, fur hats, books, and watches.

Getting there: Take the metro to Partizanskaya station. Then, walk behind the Izmailovo Hotel to find the market entrance.

Eliseevsky Store

The first supermarket in Moscow, opened in 1901, boasts both classic beauty and an array of tempting delicacies.

Location: Take the metro to Tverskaya or Pushkinskaya station and follow Google Maps. Be sure to pay close attention to the entrance, as it is only marked in Russian. (We even walked right past it ourselves!)

The Moskva River, the main river of Moscow, is beautiful and captivating.

Each subway station has its own unique beauty. There are even subway station tours available.

Let's take a tour of Moscow's culinary scene after exploring the city. Let's go! :D

White Rabbit

Starting with one of the world's top 50 restaurants, we stopped by for coffee and a high-angle view of Moscow. Unfortunately, due to a private event inside, we had to sit outside instead.

Telemok: A Taste of Russia

Telemok, a renowned Russian restaurant, boasts a delectable array of dishes, with their signature Bliny, a traditional Russian-style crepe, taking center stage. Each filling offers a unique and flavorful experience, making it a must-try for any discerning palate.

Beyond the Bliny, Telemok's Buckwheat Kasha is a culinary gem. This gluten-free dish, rich in nutrients and boasting high protein and fiber content, is a testament to the restaurant's commitment to healthy and wholesome cuisine. Served similarly to rice, the Kasha can be accompanied by a variety of delectable toppings, such as sausages or salmon, creating a symphony of flavors that will tantalize your taste buds.

With branches in both Moscow and St. Petersburg, Telemok offers a convenient and accessible way to experience the culinary delights of Russia. Whether you're a seasoned gourmand or simply seeking a taste of authentic Russian cuisine, Telemok is an excellent choice.

Kroshka Kartoshka Potatoes

This restaurant specializes in dishes made entirely from potatoes, including mashed potatoes topped with mayonnaise. They have branches at the shopping center in front of Izmailovsky Market and at the Moscow train station.

Cafe Mandarinovy Gus

Cafe Mandarinovy Gus in Russia offers a self-service dining experience, where customers choose their desired dishes and pay at the counter. We particularly enjoyed this restaurant due to its diverse menu, delicious flavors, and affordable prices. The ambiance is charming, reminiscent of Alice in Wonderland.

Location: Petrovks St., 17, within walking distance of the Bolshoi Theatre.

Moscow is also about this. Before the end of this review, I would like to leave you with the atmosphere of the Absolute Moscow Marathon 2018, which took place at a temperature of 11 degrees with rain falling throughout the Absolute Moscow Marathon. It was truly an experience.

Thank you for watching. The next review will take you to Saint Petersburg, which is lovely, both the people and the city. :)
