Activities: Eating and traveling
Hello.
This Tamkarnwela will take everyone back in time to Praya Palazzo (Phraya Palazzo Hotel).
"Siam, the River of Love" is the most perfect definition of this place. Try reading the story of this place, and you will know how beautiful the love is in this place that was built on the land of Siam, on the banks of the Chao Phraya River.
Another pick-up point is the Phra Athit Pier, which is located directly opposite the hotel.
A cool breeze, a pleasant 15-minute ride, and we saw the pier and a beautiful yellow building in front of us.
The opposite side that you can see is Tha Phra Athit.
"Phraya Palazzo" or "Phraya Chonlumphumiphainit's Mansion", originally named "Bang Yi Khan House", is a house built in the Palladian architectural style. This style reflects the prosperity of trade and contact with Westerners during the reign of King Rama V.
This Bang Yi Khan house was the wedding house of Phraya Chaloem Phumipanich when he married Khunying Suan (née Uthakaphan), a close aide to Her Majesty Queen Saovabha Phongsri in the reign of King Rama V. Phraya Chaloem Phumipanich fell in love with Khunying Suan at first sight and asked his elders to seek permission from Her Majesty Queen Saovabha. At first, Khunying Suan did not want to get married, but she could not disobey her elders and had to get married in an arranged marriage. The couple lived happily in this house and had 10 children together. Throughout their lives, Khunying Suan was the only wife of Phraya, even though it was common to have more than one wife in those days. This was not the case for the Bang Yi Khan house, which was the birthplace of their love.
Bang Yi Khan village is located on the banks of the Chao Phraya River on the Thonburi side. Following the traditional Thai way of life, people in the past preferred to build their houses along the river. Their lives were closely connected to the water, both for consumption, consumption, and travel by boat. As a result, both sides of the Chao Phraya River in the past were full of communities, houses, temples, and various important places, including Bang Yi Khan village.
Phraya Chulbhumiphanich passed away in 1938. The house was then inherited by Mr. Panchit Anekvanich, his seventh son. The family of Phraya Chulbhumiphanich continued to live in the Bang Yi Khan house until the changing social conditions and the increasing use of cars instead of boats made it inconvenient to travel.
Once a warm home filled with the love of a family, Bang Yi Khan House has now become Rajakarn School, where love and compassion flow between teachers and students.
The founder of Rajkarun School aimed to provide education to underprivileged children regardless of their religion, charging low tuition fees. However, Rajkarun School only lasted for 22 years and faced financial difficulties, leading to its closure in 1978. Five years later, the school was leased and reopened as Intra Vocational School, but it also closed down in 1996.
The house in Bang Yi Khan on the day it began to be renovated after being abandoned for almost 20 years was in a state of disrepair. The roof had caved in in some places, the floor was broken, there was standing water, and there was a problem with humidity because the building is located next to a river. Mold caused by humidity is therefore a difficult problem to solve.
Due to the ancient structure, the walls could not bear much weight. Therefore, a new structure had to be added to support the original walls. This allowed for interior decoration and the strengthening of the ancient underground passage with a concrete and waterproof system. This system strengthens the building and prevents moisture with an underground drainage system.
This house is designed to be suitable for living by the water. Water can seep under the foundation of the house because the water level rises and falls. However, water is also the cause of moisture. Therefore, a 'water pump' is installed to drain water when there is too much water in the area under the building.
Immediate welcome upon arrival
The Phraya Palazzo Hotel consists of a two-story building with two wings, each with rooms on both the upper and lower floors.
The upper hall is an ancient reception room that has been restored to its original state, reflecting the life of ancient nobles who often had to welcome guests in the hall.
Many people choose to hold their engagement and wedding ceremonies here to relive the beauty of the past.
All the furniture is very well-designed.
Corridor to each room.
In the Suite room
Welcome Fruit from the refrigerator.
This room is approximately 35 square meters.
Everything blends together.
Pay attention to every detail, please.
Window handle
Faucet
The suite room has a bathtub for you to soak in.
Along the windows of the corridor
The front door of each room will have a picture of a foreigner who came to benefit our country in the past.
I really like this kind of window verse.
Warm and luxurious decoration
The mirror is still an antique.
This phone still works really well, doesn't it?
Everything has been filtered.
The light switch still blends in.
Casement window
I'm sure you'll sleep well tonight.
I can't sleep yet. Let's have dinner first.
The lower floor will be divided into 3 sections. The first section is Phraya Dining Room, serving both Thai and French cuisine for lunch and dinner.
Elegantly and luxuriously decorated
And part 3 shows a photo gallery of the history of this building, as we mentioned earlier.
The first time we heard the name of this curry was from the gentleman of Chutathep. But this is the first time we've tasted it.
Spicy pomelo salad with crispy fish skin, a recipe from the Saeng Yaowapha line. Spicy pomelo salad with crispy fish skin, a recipe by Mom Luang Saeng Sanitwongse, using pomelo skin mixed with fried crispy fish, boiled pork skin and pork fat. Seasoned with sweet and sour pomelo juice and to add fragrance, add a strong flavor from pickled garlic water. Sprinkle with fried shallots and garlic for a complete flavor.
This dish tastes the most familiar.
Young coconut inthanin..Knead sago flour with fragrant pandan leaves water. Served with coconut milk and young coconut. We think it tastes a lot like jade mani dessert.
Delicious.
I really like this sign. It really fits the atmosphere.
In the past, this place must have been full of people.
This area suffered a lot of damage during the last flood and a lot of restoration work is needed.
Sneak peek at our room for tonight.
In the past, fragrant flowers might have been used to make scented water and perfume.
It feels like home here.
I used to have a chair like this at home too.
Are you hungry for breakfast yet? We'll eat around here, okay?
Breakfast by the River
Shrimp congee
Omelette with sausage, bacon, potatoes, and grilled tomatoes. Choose everything you like.
It would be nice to have breakfast with this view every day.
Very shady
I'll go back to my room and relax first.
Before going home, let's have another lunch together. I'm still in the mood for Thai food, so let's have something light.
Rice crackers with toppings, a snack I love to try.
The green curry chicken roti was delicious, but the roti was a bit small.
Deep-fried mackerel with seafood dipping sauce.
This concludes our trip to Praya Palazzo.
Praya Palazzo has rightfully received awards for two consecutive years from the Thailand Boutique Awards project. We have witnessed their dedication to preserving the traditional architectural style, investing a great deal of effort, passion, and budget.
The only flaw we found here is the sound of the wooden floor in the room when walking. It might disturb the room below, but it might be difficult to fix in an old house like this. The hotel has tried to solve this problem by not letting guests stay in the same room. This is a good solution.
Thank you to the Thailand Boutique Awards Season 3 (2014-2015) project for choosing Tamkarnwela as one of the bloggers to join in reviewing the project.
