Koh Phayam is located in Ranong province. Getting there is not difficult at all. We started by taking a train from Phetchaburi province at 7:20 PM for only 168 baht.

The train was quite crowded. We sat, lay down, woke up, and fell asleep. Finally, we arrived in Chumphon at 1:00 AM. We looked for a place to stay and waited until morning to continue our journey.

The next morning, we took a van from Chumphon at 6:30 AM for 120 baht. We arrived in Ranong at 8:45 AM. If you want convenience, the van driver can take you directly to the pier for an additional 100 baht per person. However, if you want to save money, you can take a red songthaew for only 20 baht.

Upon arrival, we proceeded to purchase boat tickets. Two types of boats are available for travel to Koh Phayam: a large, slow boat that transports goods and offers a lower fare, and a smaller, faster speedboat with a capacity of approximately 20 passengers and a fare of 350 baht. We opted for the speedboat.

Ready to go! Our boat departs at 9:00 AM. The sailing is smooth, but the water doesn't look very clear. I remembered that Koh Phayam is not far from the shore, only a 40-minute boat ride. Plus, it's the rainy season now, so there's wind, rain, and monsoons.

We rode our bikes and suddenly, there was a large forest! It was very different from the other islands we visited. If you want to experience the local way of life, see the trees and flowers, come here during the rainy season. It's just as fun as the hot and cold seasons.

Lost and confused, we finally arrived at our accommodation. Finding a place to stay on this small island took almost an hour.

This is the view from our accommodation. We are facing the sunset, so we must have at least one evening where we can take pictures of the sunset. Our accommodation is right by the sea, so when the tide is high, we can walk three steps and be in the water. Sometimes when we are sleeping, we think the water is going to wash our house away!

After a refreshing nap, we arrived at our first meal on the island.

Bananas here are sold by the kilo. After refueling, we rode our bikes aimlessly, going wherever the road took us.

It rained lightly during the day and continued to rain at night, with no sign of stopping. My hopes of capturing the sunrise and sunset were dashed. But that's okay, we persevered. We rode our motorbikes, braved the rain, and explored the area. It was a different kind of fun and excitement.

This trip was not about diving, sunbathing, or wearing swimsuits, as the cold weather, rain, and monsoon season prevented such activities.

The Next Day at Ao Khao Kwaii

The next day, despite the rain, we ventured to Ao Khao Kwaii. Initially, we planned to simply take photos and enjoy a walk in the rain. However, we encountered a woman and her daughter who were collecting "hoi siab" (a type of shellfish) to pickle with fish sauce and store for later consumption. The woman also informed us that the brown seaweed nearby was edible. She suggested waiting for the tide to recede further, as we could then catch crabs for a meal.

Khao Kwai Bay is a bay with few sandflies and large, beautifully-holed rocks.

From the top of the mountain, you can see a beautiful stream flowing down to the sea.
