Hello again, Readme friends! Today, we're going to take you to a nearby pub! Discover a tourist attraction that is not far away, easily accessible, and where everyone can go. Besides the island in the middle of the road, there is this island that is closest to Bangkok, which is... Koh Kret.
During the weekend or holidays with a short break of only 1-2 days, many people might want to relax in a tourist attraction that is not far from Bangkok, easily accessible, offers natural scenery, has a riverside atmosphere, allows you to worship Buddha, and has delicious food. If you are looking for a tourist attraction like this, we recommend this place: Koh Kret.

**Ko Kret** is an island in the Chao Phraya River, a renowned tourist destination in Nonthaburi Province. It is well-known as a Mon community with a rich history of pottery and traditional culture. Ko Kret is famous for its Mon community and high-quality pottery, with the Phra Chedi Mutao of Wat Poramaiyikawat as the landmark of the island's pier. Ko Kret is open daily, but most shops are open on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays. It is a perfect place to eat, visit, relax, and make merit.

BP Journey This trip to Koh Kret, carrying a backpack, holding a camera, traveling around Koh Kret, ready to go, let's go o o o o o

Our journey began at Pathum Thani bus station, where we boarded the Rangsit-Pak Kret bus for 10 baht per person.

Please drop me off at the front of Lotus Pak Kret.

The port is not located at the entrance. We need to go further in. The port is located at Wat Sanam Nuea or Wat Klang Kret. To get there, you can use the services of a three-wheeled taxi or a motorcycle taxi. The fare is about 10 baht per person. But I walked to save money.

It took less than 15 minutes to walk to Wat Sanam Nua, with the pier located behind the temple. Walking along the path, you will arrive at the destination. However, before reaching the pier, I came across an old-fashioned ice cream shop with a crowd of teenagers gathered around. So, I decided to take a closer look.

Initially, we intended to take a photo, but the shop owner encouraged us to purchase three sticks for ten baht. We were given the opportunity to take a chance and choose a stick. If we were lucky enough to select a stick with a red or green tip, we would receive an additional ice cream stick for free.

"Just enough to eat at the end of the stick, that's a hat-trick! 55555. I heard the owner say that during the school term, they will give out free ice cream to the children. He asked me to let you know."

Our first destination was the pier to cross to Koh Kret Island. It was so crowded that we had to queue, but it only took a short while.

The round-trip fare is 2 baht per person, or 4 baht for a round-trip.

**The Mouteau Pagoda** of Wat Paramiyikawat is a **landmark of the pier side of Koh Kret**.

From the boat, you can see the ferry pier at Wat Sanam Nua.

In a short while, the boat docked at the pier of Koh Kret.

The island offers a variety of transportation options, including bicycle rentals for 40-60 baht and boat tours that showcase the local waterfront lifestyle, visiting temples and landmarks such as Wat Yai Sawang Arom, Wat Sala Kun, and a pottery demonstration. Visitors can also explore the Bang Bua Thong Canal and sample the renowned sweet treats of Koh Kret, or simply enjoy a leisurely stroll.

To begin our auspicious journey, we visited Wat Parmaiyikawas. This temple boasts several noteworthy features. At the pier, a majestic five-tiered wooden castle, once housing the cremated remains of past abbots, stands tall. The Ubosot (ordination hall) is adorned with imported materials from Italy, showcasing European art in the style favored by King Rama V. Despite embracing modern influences, the King preserved traditional customs by decreeing that Mon language chanting be initiated here. Today, the temple remains the sole custodian of the Mon-language Tripitaka. Inside the Ubosot, the principal Buddha image is flanked by statues of Moggallana and Sariputta.

The principal Buddha image in the ordination hall is in the posture of subduing Mara.

Behind the ordination hall is the Phra Maha Ramanyen Chedi, a replica of the Shwedagon Pagoda in Burma.

We then proceeded to pay our respects to the reclining Buddha statue, located at the back of the temple.

After paying respects to the Buddha, we walked to pay homage to King Rama V, who is located near the pier.

Next, we headed to a popular spot that everyone must visit, the Mutha Pagoda, also known as the Leaning Pagoda.

After paying respects at the Phra Borommathat Chedi, we continued our walk to the next destination, Wat Phai Lom. Along the way, there were many stalls selling food, rare desserts, and earthenware.

A rare and delicious dessert.

A Tranquil Haven: Exploring Wat Phai Lom

After a short walk, we arrived at the serene Wat Phai Lom. This temple, dating back to the late Ayutthaya period, boasts an exquisite ordination hall adorned with intricate floral motifs carved into the gable. The exquisitely crafted brackets and lotus-bud finials further enhance its beauty. The Mon people refer to this temple as "Phea Toe." Within the temple grounds lies a tranquil garden, offering a welcome respite from the bustling world.

**Next to the temple, there is a garden, suitable for relaxing.**

After enjoying the performance for a while, we continued our journey to Wat Sao Thong Thong. Along the way, there were many restaurants and beverage shops that looked inviting and delicious. Then we heard someone shout that there was a pottery workshop in this alley! We immediately rushed in. This is the pottery workshop in Moo 6. They demonstrate pottery making, carving, and teach pottery making in a friendly atmosphere. Those who make pottery can also take their own work home. For those who don't want to make pottery, there are also exquisite ceramic works for sale.

After spending some time here, we traveled to Wat Sao Thong Thong.

Wat Sao Thong Thong, an ancient temple on Koh Kret, was originally named "Wat Suan Mak". Behind the main hall stands the tallest pagoda in Pak Kret district. This Ayutthaya-style pagoda features a twelve-sided base and is surrounded by two tiers of smaller pagodas. On either side of the hall stand two large pagodas: one bell-shaped or Sri Lankan-style, and the other shaped like a star fruit. The interior of the hall boasts beautiful ceiling paintings with intricate gold leaf designs. The main Buddha statue is a large stucco image in the Mara-Vijaya posture. The Mon people call this temple "Peah A-lar". In front of the hall stand two small pagodas resembling star fruits, with a square base and twelve-sided corners adorned with stucco decorations.

From the vantage point of Wat Sao Thong Thong, one can see the majestic Luang Pho To of Wat Bang Chak. From here, visitors can take a ferry across the river to Wat Bang Chak and Wat Yai Sawang Arom. Conversely, many people also take boats from both temples to visit Koh Kret.

On the way, we came across Wat Sala Kula and Wat Pa Lelaiyok. Near Wat Pa Lelaiyok is Wat Chimpli, which we didn't stop at because it looked like it was going to rain. So we hurried along until we reached the pottery workshop in Moo 1. We decided to go in and take a look.

A short walk away, you will find a fascinating place called Baan Silp Siam. This is a center for learning, creating, and sharing Thai art. Inside, there are exhibitions and learning corners where tourists and students can appreciate the exquisite craftsmanship of Thai art.

This place offers a wide variety of activities.

In contrast, Baan Pa Sun's dessert shop on Koh Kret is a traditional Thai wooden house adorned with antique furniture and utensils. It offers a comprehensive menu of savory and sweet dishes, including papaya salad and stuffed noodles. However, the highlight is undoubtedly the desserts, such as crispy ruby, sago, lod chong, floating palm fruit, floating mango, and floating guava. Beverages include red and green soda mixed with honey and lemon.
