Peggy's Cove Fishing Village

This vibrant, small resort is located on Khung Wiman Beach in Sanam Chai District, Na Yai Am District, Chanthaburi Province, just 221 km away. It takes about 3 hours to reach the resort, which completely changed my travel plans for Chanthaburi. I had planned to leave my luggage at the resort and continue exploring, but once I saw the resort, I couldn't bring myself to leave.

Travel Route

  • Depart from Bangkok via the expressway.

- Follow the sign for "Ban Bueng - Klaeng Exit" and turn left.

  • Continue straight until you reach the Sam Yaek Klang intersection, then turn left onto Sukhumvit Road and continue towards Chanthaburi.

- Run on Sukhumvit Road until you reach the Prasert intersection, then turn right.

- Drive straight until you reach Khlong Poon intersection, then turn left onto Chalermprakiet Borommaratchachonnani Road.

  • Drive on Charoen Burapha Chonlathit Road until you reach Khlong Wiman Intersection, turn right and continue straight onto Khlong Wiman Beach Road.

- Turn left and continue for 20 meters. Peggy's Cove will be on your left.

Before we begin, let's get to know the resort that captivated me. They say that the resort's architectural style is reminiscent of a fishing village in Halifax, a tourist town in the Canadian province of Nova Scotia. This trip, I will take you to see if this new resort, which has been open for less than a year, lives up to its reputation. Follow me...

The front of the resort features a series of brightly colored buildings. The first building, located near the entrance and parking area, is a coffee shop called Coffee Cove, easily identifiable by its lighthouse. Next to it is the Light House Bar & Grill, and the final building, shaped like a church, houses both the lobby and the front desk for checking in.

The interior of the church-shaped building serves as the check-in/check-out point. The high-ceilinged roof creates a spacious and airy atmosphere. Behind the reception counter, a map of Peggy's Cove in Canada is displayed, along with photographs of the Canadian fishing village. This gives guests a glimpse of what to expect before they visit the actual site. The resort also sells souvenirs and offers fishing costumes for rent as photo props. (It's a pity I only found out about the costumes later.)

Welcome to Peggy's Cove.

The welcome sign at the entrance of the accommodation, looking deep into the accommodation area, could not help but be amazed. First of all, let's go see my room. My room will be a Deluxe Jacuzzi Villa in yellow against the sky, and the name of the villa is very suitable for me, called "Oyster House".

Despite its modest exterior, the interior of the house is surprisingly spacious. The open floor plan and high ceilings create an airy and inviting atmosphere. The cream-colored walls complement the blue-gray furniture, creating a calming and harmonious ambiance. The king-size bed is adorned with an abundance of pillows, ensuring a comfortable night's sleep. A small balcony at the back of the house provides a cozy spot for relaxation and enjoying the fresh air.

The room was well-equipped with amenities, including a minibar with four complimentary bottles of water per day, a safety box, bathrobes, slippers, an umbrella, a hairdryer, an electric kettle with complimentary tea and coffee, and toiletries. Guests were not required to bring anything except their travel clothes. One peculiar item in the room was a black, buffalo horn-shaped object. Initially, it was thought to be a fishing tool used by Canadian fishermen for decorative purposes. However, the staff explained that it was a mobile phone speaker for playing music. When a phone with a bottom-facing speaker, such as an iPhone or Samsung, was placed on the stand, it amplified the sound from the speaker, making it louder without any additional complexity.

The highlight of this room is the bathroom, which is said to have a Jacuzzi. But the surprise is that it is an open-air Jacuzzi with a view of the garden from both the roof and the side. I couldn't resist trying it out and soaking in the lifestyle of the Halifax fishermen. Just lying in the water, sipping brandy, and listening to soft music while looking at the view from the roof is a delight. Or, if you don't mind the neighbors' eyes, you can open the curtains and enjoy the view.

After exploring the room to my satisfaction, I decided to take a walk around the resort. The weather was perfect, with clear blue skies, making it ideal for photography. I believe this resort is a haven for photographers, with beautiful corners everywhere. It's a shame that I don't have a model with me in such a picturesque location, so I decided to use myself as a model for the cover photo.

This accommodation offers 38 rooms across 4 room types, spread across 12 rai of land.

Each house is connected by a wooden bridge, and there is a canal-like stream flowing under the houses. Some houses have boats parked in front of them as cool props. Along the path, the resort has marked spots for taking photos. If you just stand at the marked spots, you are sure to get beautiful angles.

In the afternoon, the houses on the right side of the resort will be in the direction of the sun. If the sky is clear, the photos will come out like the ones in the picture. However, the houses on the left side will be backlit, so it is better to take pictures of them in the morning. I planned to take pictures in the morning the next day, but unfortunately it rained all day. Therefore, in this review, there are pictures with both clear skies and white or dark skies in some pictures.

The Grand Deluxe accommodations are two-story houses, while the standard Deluxe rooms are individual villas. Some villas offer additional amenities such as jacuzzis or private pools, with prices varying accordingly.

The resort boasts numerous picturesque photo opportunities, featuring decorative fishing equipment, boats, antique hurricane lanterns, and meticulously arranged thatched-roof pavilions. The meticulously planted trees, including the vibrant green "love of the sea" trees found in nearly every household, contribute to the resort's vibrant ambiance. The "love of the sea" trees, with their vibrant green leaves, add a splash of color to the resort. Despite its somewhat unkempt appearance, the fountain grass sways gracefully in the breeze, resembling ocean waves.

The resort boasts a swimming pool at the front, offering a refreshing escape from the nearby sea. While not expansive, the pool provides a pleasant atmosphere, especially during the cooler hours after sunset.

In the evening, guests can enjoy a meal at the resort's restaurant, Lighthouse Bar & Grill, located on the second floor. The menu offers a variety of Thai, local, Western, and even healthy options. The food is generally considered to be of good quality, and the restaurant boasts beautiful views of the sunset. Alternatively, guests can opt to dine in the open-air section on the ground floor, which offers a more casual atmosphere and stunning seaside views.

Pork chop steak with black pepper sauce

Salmon steak with garlic butter sauce

Mixed vegetable salad

Salmon toast

The next morning, it rained all day, creating a cozy atmosphere that made me want to stay in bed. However, I decided to review the breakfast options before returning to my slumber. The breakfast at this establishment varies depending on the number of guests. On busy days, a buffet line is available, allowing guests to choose their desired items. When there are fewer guests, a set menu is offered, with options such as rice porridge, American breakfast, or local dishes like stir-fried rice with chili and salt. Even with a smaller guest count, the establishment provides a generous spread of bread, fruits, salads, tea, coffee, fresh milk, and fruit juices.

After checking out, I stopped by Coffee Cove, a cafe located in the resort, to wait for the rain to stop. The atmosphere in the cafe was relaxing, and I sat by the window, watching the rain fall. I saw a sign pointing to the lighthouse, so I decided to go up for a view from above. I didn't stay long because of the rain, so I just looked around inside the lighthouse. As the rain started to subside, I got back on the road and headed to my next destination. Where will I go on a day like this when the sky isn't cooperating? Stay tuned for my next post...
