This weekend, for those who are looking for a place to sip tea or coffee to change the atmosphere, I would like to introduce everyone to .."Sri Thong".. an afternoon tea set at Miss Siam Restaurant, Hua Chang Heritage Hotel, Bangkok. To be one of the places to relax with good aesthetics for everyone.
"Sri Tong" - a name that resonates with a captivating charm. This auspicious appellation, commencing with the honorific "Sri," embodies the essence of Thai identity.
Today, I was invited by the Huachang Heritage Hotel to try their tea and coffee amidst the beautiful atmosphere of the Miss Siam restaurant. I accepted the hotel's invitation and was impressed from the moment I stepped into the hotel's grounds, which were lush with green trees, giving a refreshing feeling that I could feel with every breath I took.
"The 'Sri Tong' I sampled today is a set of Thai homemade snacks served with tea and coffee. The tea served at Miss Siam restaurant is the English brand Whittard, beautifully presented on a white tray with intricately sewn banana leaf cones, reminiscent of the craftsmanship used in making 'bai sri' offerings."
At Miss Siam Restaurant, guests can enjoy a cup of tea or coffee in the dining room or outdoors by the pool. "The atmosphere here is so peaceful and refreshing," I remarked to the hotel staff, expressing my sincere appreciation.
In contrast to Western tea sets, which typically feature bread, sandwiches, and various cakes, Thai tea sets offer a diverse selection of savory and sweet snacks. During my tasting experience, the Sri Thong set included savory options such as crab spring rolls, crispy noodles with traditional toppings, and curry puffs. Sweet treats included cassava cake, pumpkin custard, coconut jelly, shredded egg yolk threads, golden threads, and mung bean pudding.
The desserts were not overly sweet, striking a perfect balance of flavor. As someone who generally avoids overly sweet treats, I found the sweetness level of the desserts in the Sri Thong set to be just right. They paired well with both tea and coffee, making for a delightful end to the meal.
Many Thai dishes are familiar to us, including the ancient Thai snack "La Tiane", which is mentioned in the "Kap He Chom Krung Khao Wan" poem composed by King Rama II. It consists of stir-fried pork with spices wrapped in an egg net, creating bite-sized pieces. The charm of this dish lies in its savory and slightly sweet flavor, which complements each other perfectly.
The crispy rice noodles with ancient toppings is another dish that I love and am addicted to the sweet and sour taste of tamarind water. I feel like eating it as a main dish. It's so delicious that I don't want to eat it in the portion served as a snack.
The overall experience at the Head Elephant Heritage Hotel was delightful. The ambiance was serene, and the traditional Thai snacks were a perfect complement. The Whittard tea stood out with its distinct aroma, adding to the overall enjoyment. I highly recommend trying this unique experience for yourself.
