Magic Hour at Camp Phuchifa, Chiang Rai, Thailand
The last light before sunset is a short-lived moment, but it made our first trip to Chiang Rai so wonderful that we felt it would be a great trip all the way. In this part, we will review only the accommodation. We will tell you the full story of 4 days and 3 nights separately for you to read again.
Camp Phuchifa: A scenic haven with stunning sunset views
Camp Phuchifa boasts a prime location near the ascent to Phuchifa Mountain, offering breathtaking views from the accommodation itself. With a bit of luck, guests can witness mesmerizing sunsets, painting the sky with vibrant hues. The camp also provides convenient access to delicious communal hotpot sets, which can be pre-ordered during the booking process.
In front of our tent, there was a shoebox provided for us. It seemed that the locals might have stolen our shoes for fun. Haha! As for the bathroom, it was a shared bathroom, but it was relatively clean and well-organized.
The tent is spacious and well-equipped with electricity, tissues, blankets, towels, and a lockable door.
The area with the lights in the picture is the bathroom and the area where we had breakfast. The bathroom has a water heater, but it was still cold, haha. As for the barbecue dinner, we can eat it in front of our tent. The small set is 399 baht and the large set is 599 baht. There is also a small mini-mart where we can buy snacks and drinks.
While we were having dinner,
An uncle came to ask us about watching the sunrise at Phu Chi Fa.
He recommended that we agree to go.
Details of the ride to watch the sunrise at Phu Chi Fa
60 baht per person (round trip). We can arrange a time, we arranged for 5:00 AM. A car will pick us up at our accommodation at the appointed time. It's very convenient.
Actually, 5:30 AM is also enough time, because the sun rises at 6:45 AM. But it's better to go and enjoy the cold wind for a while. It's very cold, so it's better to be prepared. It's very windy, so don't forget to bring a warm coat, a woolen hat, gloves, etc. That way you won't have to wait for the sun in agony. And go to the bathroom beforehand.
P.S. I recommend booking a car from the accommodation because we will have to use the community car anyway. They don't allow private cars to go up. You can only drive to the area in front of the entrance.
The next morning, we met the pickup truck as scheduled. There were also guests from other car dealerships who were using the truck to go up Phu Chi Fa. We rode in the back of the pickup truck for less than 10 minutes before reaching the entrance to the Phu Chi Fa trail. We then continued on foot for about 800 meters. It's a good idea to bring a flashlight or use the flash on your phone.
The sun rises at Phu Chi Fa.
"Pointing to the sky" is indeed true.
The high concentration of PM 2.5 during our visit limited visibility and obscured the full beauty of the scenery. Despite the hazy conditions, the view was still captivating. A return trip during clearer weather is recommended for a more complete experience.
The photos in this thread have minimal editing, mostly showcasing the actual colors captured straight from the camera. The vibrancy may vary due to the use of three different cameras from leading brands. It might sound like bragging, but hey, those are my friend's cameras!
After watching the sunrise and taking photos at the viewpoint, we queued up to take a pickup truck back down. There are regular shuttle services available, and you can ask to be dropped off at your accommodation. It's very convenient!

Daytime atmosphere of the accommodation (we took this photo just before leaving, so it's a bit sunny). Come on, let's continue to eat breakfast!
Around 8:00 AM, we returned to the camp at Phu Chi Fa for breakfast. The menu consisted of rice porridge, eggs for us to fry ourselves, sausages, bread, coffee, and Ovaltine.
The scorching sun at almost noon
There are many photogenic corners for you to take cool photos. I secretly stole a photo of my friend.
Overall, we were very impressed with this place. If a friend asks, we would definitely recommend it. We found the management to be excellent, the place to be clean, and the atmosphere to be pleasant. Anyone interested in staying here should book well in advance, as it is a popular spot.
