Today marks the final day of my road trip, but not the end of my Belgian adventure. I will be departing tomorrow. Today's itinerary includes a drive to a northeastern city, followed by a scenic journey along the Meuse River, passing through various towns and villages. I particularly enjoy this type of sightseeing, as it offers a relaxing and visually pleasing experience.
The plan is to drive up to Liège and then follow the Meuse River, passing through Huy and arriving in Namur. We will spend the night in Namur before driving to the airport in the morning.
The distances are as follows: Dinant-Liège 70km, Liège-Huy 30km, Huy-Namur 30km. Driving no more than 150km per day is not too much.
We will leave early and enjoy the scenery as we drive to Liège. It is a large city, but the traffic is not too bad and it is easy to drive. There is a beautiful train station that is worth seeing, as well as a bend in the river in the middle of the city and a beautiful church.
I had a bit of a scare here, though. The parking machine at the train station only accepts credit cards, and you have to enter your PIN number. In Thailand, we use a four-digit PIN, but here they require a six-digit PIN. I tried both my Visa and Mastercard, both debit and credit, but none of them worked. I was starting to sweat. What should I do? Then I remembered that I had encountered this problem before in Amsterdam.
A beautiful woman happened to be walking by the parking machine. I decided to use my charm to my advantage. "Excuse me, beautiful lady," I said. "I'm from Thailand and my Thai cards don't work with this machine. Would you mind using your card to pay for my parking? I'll give you double the amount in cash." She smiled understandingly and paid for me. She even refused to take more than the amount she had paid. I'm sure it was because of my good looks (just kidding, but it made me feel better).
I'm telling you this story so that you can use it if you ever encounter a similar problem. I've used it twice now, and people are always happy to help tourists.
We took a quick look around Liège. It was a cloudy day with occasional showers.
Embark on a walking tour of the old town. Around noon, embark on a journey to the city of Huy, located 30 kilometers away. The Meuse River flows through the city, adding to its scenic beauty.
After a relaxing walk around the city to ease our fatigue, we drove another 30 km to Namur, our final stop before heading back the next day. Namur is a relatively small and unexciting city, and the rain that started to fall made sightseeing less enjoyable.
In the late afternoon, they drove to their accommodation on the outskirts of the city... They did not go out to take pictures at night due to the rain.
On the bright and sunny morning of our departure, we captured a few snapshots of the beautiful surroundings of our accommodation.
I need to rush to the airport, which is 70km away. It's quite a distance, but no worries, this time I'll return the car at the airport counter, so it won't take too much time. On this trip, I parked my car in the wrong spot. I asked some locals, and they said it was okay to park there, so I parked on the side of the road. I got a ticket in LEUVEN on the first day. I thought I could pay it at the car rental company at the airport, but it turned out I couldn't. They said I had to pay it at the LEUVEN police station. What should I do? They said I could wait until I get back to Thailand, and the fine might be deducted from my card automatically. Or, if I'm lucky, nothing will happen. In the end, nothing happened. I was lucky.
Returned the car and waiting to board the plane back to Thailand... safely... Stay tuned for the next trip!
